Kettuvallam or rice barges converted to houseboats are a unique feature of the Kerala Backwaters. These boats were originally used for transporting rice and other goods and are traditionally made of Anjli wood, bamboo and coir. The boats move slowly along the waterways, covering approximately 20km per day and allowing plenty of photographic opportunities. Traditional Kerala food is served on board. Your boat is always exclusive to you (ie the only other people on board will be your crew) and we are able to offer a wide choice of boats - standard, deluxe and deluxe air-conditioned boats offering accommodation for two, four or six guests. |
